Your Child’s Day
At First United Methodist Preschool, your child will experience a well-balanced day filled with both structured and unstructured activities that are a mix of child-initiated exploration and teacher-directed learning
Play and Learn Together
Your child will have the opportunity to play and learn cooperatively with friends, explore materials, and develop at their own pace. While daily routines may vary by class, all children participate in greeting time, small and large group activities, planning and review sessions, snack time, and active or outdoor play. Throughout the day, children have access to a wide range of materials, including dramatic play equipment, art activities, sand and water tables, music and movement tools, building and manipulative toys, cooking sets, books, and nature and science items. Classroom materials are refreshed regularly to align with seasonal themes or to match the children's evolving interests.
Celebrating Milestones & Building Community
At First United Methodist Preschool, we cherish special moments and create lasting memories throughout the school year. Birthdays are joyfully celebrated in the classroom, and parents are invited to participate by bringing a nut-free treat to share or coming to read a story or do an activity with the class.
Our three- and four-year-olds, along with parent volunteers, have the opportunity to participate in exciting field trips throughout the school year. Past excursions have included plays at the Paramount Theater, library storytime visits, trips to the Virginia Discovery Museum and WildRock, and creative sessions at the McGuffey Arts Center.
In addition to these special days, we foster a sense of community with family events like FUMP Sundays at CFUMC, park playdates to meet teachers and classmates before the school year begins, and Fall and Spring FUMP Picnics. These gatherings provide opportunities for families to connect, celebrate, and share in the joy of their children's preschool experience.
